"Tequeños" a delicious bite!
Tequeño is a fried appetizer, has a cylindrical shape and contains a bar of semi-hard cheese that is wrapped in strips of thin wheat flour dough.
For those who don't know what "tequeños" are, here's a valuable tip for those who want to try this Venezuelan delicacy.
The name "tequeños" comes from the city of Los Teques, capital of the state of Miranda, (Venezuela) where this food is believed to originate. The oldest known references are from the first decade of the 19th century. At that time, the richest families in Caracas spent long periods of vacation in Los Teques and it is believed that they began to prepare them with the dough left over from other Venezuelan "pastelitos". It is one of the most popular snacks at parties, especially weddings. It is said that a party is not a true Venezuelan party without tequeños.
Here at Restaurante Quinta Estação, we make a point of having on our menu the famous "tequeños", made fresh, with a light, thin and crunchy dough, and are served with various sweet or savory fillings. A true wonder!
